The sushi bake craze went viral and started showing up on social media feeds in early 2020. The dish has all the hallmarks of food concoction waiting to be brought to a potluck… remember those?!?

    What is a sushi bake?

Warm, rich and creamy, a sushi bake has all the components of the classic Californian Roll but is baked in a casserole pan! The dish consists of layers of rice, Furikaki (Japanese rice seasoning), a mixture of cooked salmon, mayo, cream cheese, and fish roe. Once baked, cooled and set, portions are scooped up and served with seaweed.

    History of The Benedict

Traditional Eggs Benedict at Delmonico’s Restaurant in New York

Whoever thought of this perfect breakfast or brunch dish certainly deserves a pat on the back! Turns out there are a couple of theories.

The earliest record traces back to the Delmonico’s Restaurant in Lower Manhattan. Some claim that chef Charles Ranhofer came up with the combination in the 1860s when Mrs. LeGrand Benedict, one of the regular diners, grew bored of the menu and wanted something new. His recipe, which he dubbed Eggs a la Benedict, was published in his cookbook in 1894.

Another legend attributes the creation of the Eggs Benedict to Lemuel Benedict. After a night of drinking in 1894, Benedict wandered into the Waldorf Hotel in Manhattan and ordered a few components of this dish. Seeing this order come through, the maître d’, Oscar Tschirsky, recognized how tasty it could be and added the dish to the menu. If this story is true, Tschirsky would be a pretty prolific creator, as he is also developed the Waldorf salad.

One more thing to note: Tschirsky also worked at Delmonico’s right around the time eggs a la Benedict started to become popular.

  • Let’s Get Baked On Chocolate Cake

Let’s Get Baked On Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake has its own day and rightfully so! On 27 January the world celebrates Chocolate Cake Day, giving cake and chocolate lovers a legitimate excuse to indulge in a slice or two. With so many different levels of richness and variations, there is no shortage of options, making chocolate the most popular kind of cake.

    History of Chocolate Cake Day

Chocolate cake has been with us since 1764 when it was discovered that grinding cocoa beans between heavy stones produced cocoa powder, which could then become chocolate. 60 years would pass before Conrad Van Houten, a Dutch chemist and chocolate maker, discovered a method that mechanically extracts fat from the cacao liquor which produced cacao butter. Long story short, this man is the reason that chocolate is actually affordable.

Getting Baked On Chocolate Cake Recipes and Varieties

    black forest cake
Black Forest cake is a chocolate sponge cake with a rich cherry filling based on the German dessert Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, literally “Black Forest Cherry-torte”.

The first verifiable recipe for chocolate cake appeared in Eliza Leslie’s 1847 cookbook. The actual formula, however, wasn’t quite the same as the cake we know today. Leslie’s recipe called for chopped pieces of chocolate inserted into a plain sponge, instead of adding cocoa powder to the mix itself.

Over the years, cookbook authors such as Maria Parloa added their own twists on the chocolate cake. First came the frosting, followed by the inclusion of de-fatted cocoa powder into the batter mix. After that came a range of chocolatey fillings, designed to make the dessert even more delightful.

Today, there are so many moist chocolate cake recipes out there, but this one is hands down the best. Why? Apart from the fact that it’s infused with cannabutter, this recipe uses simple and easy to find ingredients. It’s moist and decadent, with rich chocolate flavours. Just as a heads up, go easy on the amount of marijuana you use. A little bit goes a long way and no stoned citizen can resist a second slice.

    Background Of A Peanut

First off, the peanut is not a nut. The peanut is actually a legume that originated in South America. It arrived in North America by way of Africa, where peanuts are originally called goobers or nguba. Because peanuts grow on bushes close to the ground, they took on the name and are sometimes called groundnuts.

A widely used condiment that has a bunch of uses; from tenderising meat to replacing eggs in baked goods! The proteins and lecithin in the egg yolk serve as the emulsifiers when making a traditional mayonnaise recipe. There are many mayonnaise brands around the globe like Hellman’s or Heinz, each with their own recipes and ideas about the best ingredients and techniques.

The exact history of mayonnaise is not clear, however it is believed to have been created in some variation somewhere between Spain and France. The first documented recipe of a sauce close to the modern idea of mayonnaise dates back to 1742. The etymology of the word is uncertain, with a few different stories ranging from the name being derived from ancient French words for ‘egg yolk’ or ‘stir’ to tales of a celebratory dinner prepared for the Duke of Richelieu at the port town of Mahon, Minorca in 1756. Mayonnaise was attested in English in 1815.

  • Getting Baked On Cannabis Cookies

    Getting Baked On Cannabis Cookies

Gone are the days where making a pot brownie meant crushing some herb into your cookie batter. That slowboat has sailed even long before Martha and Snoop showed viewers the rope on how to get baked.

Today’s marijuana edibles are much more potent than the weed brownies of yesteryear and available in every form imaginable. Decades ago, a typical bud of marijuana might contain 2 or 3 % THC. Today, the THC in a raw bud of weed sits anywhere between 12 and 25 %, according to experts in the field. The standard dose is considered to be 10 milligrams, but newbies should start with 5 milligrams for the best chance at a good time.

Because the THC is digested instead of inhaled, it can take up to two hours for the edible to kick in. Impatient users might be tempted to eat another one to start feeling the psychoactive effects, but this is a really bad idea. From intense hallucinations to hyperventilation and violent illness, overindulging is dangerous. Cannabis edibles CAN totally mess you up and you don’t want to go there!

If you are chasing an instant and more predictable high, rather smoking a joint or better yet, carve your own bong out of fruit and vegetables.

There’s a reason behind the saying “get ready for the ride”, so a good rule of thumb is to start small, be patient and enjoy the trip!

Keen to get high on your own supply, give this dope dagga brownie recipe a try.
