  • Find out what Cannabis Tinctures are and how to make your own Green Dragon Tincture at home

Find out what Cannabis Tinctures are and how to make your own Green Dragon Tincture at home

Green Dragon Cannabis Tincture was one of the most commonly used ways to ingest the humble Mary Jane before she was caught in the crossfire when the United States federal administration declared the War on Drugs.

    What is a Tincture?

    Tincture In A Dropper

A simple definition; tinctures are extracts made by soaking the leaves, bark and roots of herbs in an alcohol solvent. The solvent draws out the active compounds in the plants, dissolves and concentrates them. Tinctures have been used as medicine for a variety of ailments for many years.

    What is a Cannabis Tincture?

    Green Dragon Tincture

There are a few options when it comes to Cannabis Tinctures. The best solvent for extracting as many cannabinoids and terpenes as possible is PGA (pure grain alcohol). Enters the Green Dragon, an alcohol-based cannabis tincture. For a lower ABV cannabis tincture with a defined flavour profile, you could use your favourite vodka, brandy or whisk(e)y.

    Alcohol-free

    Pure MCT Coconut Oil

If you are avoiding alcohol for whatever reason, your tincture will have an alcohol percentage, you could replace the alcohol with an MCT oil. MCT is oil derived from coconuts, it is easily digested and can be taken sublingually just like a tincture.

    Benefits of using Cannabis Tinctures

    Administrate Green Dragon Sublinguily

Cannabis tinctures are quick and easy to make at home. Consumption is effortless, fast-acting and discreet. Making your own cannabis tincture will save you money and homemade tinctures are customizable. You can add lavender and chamomile to make a tincture for anxiety and relaxation or try turmeric and ginger for an anti-inflammatory tincture to target pain relief.

    Choosing your Bud

    Select Quality Cannabis

Shop around for the desired cannabinoid combination. You could choose a THC forward strain, or decide on a variety with a higher percentage of CBD or CBG cannabinoids. It all depends on what desired effects you are after. You can calculate the potency of your cannabis tincture by using a tincture edibles calculator.

How to make your own Green Dragon Cannabis Tincture

    Green Dragon Tincture NEW

You will need a mason jar, high-proof and safe for consumption alcohol, strainer and your marijuana of choice.

    Cold extraction

    Cold Extraction Method

There are several sources that recommend placing the jar in the back of your freezer instead. This cold process is said to extract cannabinoids and terpenes more efficiently but leaves behind the Chlorophyll. Which is the part that makes the plant green and helps it create its own food through the process of photosynthesis. Some people prefer to avoid it altogether, as it is an acquired taste. But within at least seven days of keeping the tincture in the back of your freezer and giving it a shake-a-day, your tincture will be ready to be strained within seven to ten days.

    Dosage

    Cannabis tincture Dosage

Go low, go slow! Stick to one or two drops under your tongue to start. Once you have tested the potency of your marijuana tincture paired with your own tolerance you will have a better understanding of what your dosage is.  Keep it under your tongue for 20-30 seconds for the medication to absorb directly into your bloodstream, the tincture burns under the tongue at first, but this does not last very long.

It is pretty easy to make your own Green Dragon Cannabis Tincture at home. If you enjoy the benefits and effects of cannabis, this is the edibles solution for you! Taken sublingually it is fast-acting, the dosage is controllable and you will be saving money! Try it today!

  • The latest legalization news on the proposed Marijuana Bill extends the deadline for public comment

The latest legalization news on the proposed Marijuana Bill extends the deadline for public comment

In the latest legalization news the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services’ chairperson; Bulelani Magwanishe, announced the extension of the deadline for public comment on the marijuana bill, aka Cannabis For Private Purposes Bill. South Africans now have until 30 November 2020 to submit their thoughts and comments on the proposed bill.

The initial deadline of 9 October 2020 was set by the landmark Constitutional Court ruling on 18 September 2018. But Parliament has failed to meet the Constitutional Court’s deadline of 24 months to make the necessary legislative amendments for the private possession and use of marijuana. The marijuana bill, which was approved by Cabinet in August, has left stoned citizens of the republic wondering if dagga will ever be fully decriminalized and added to the list of countries where marijuana is legal.

Man looking back, walking past Legal Marijuana art
    Legalize it!

The committee will only start work on the Bill next year because it must first process legislation aimed at strengthening the fight against gender-based violence.

The purpose of the Marijuana Bill

The purpose of the marijuana Bill is to respect the privacy of an adult person; and regulate the possession of cannabis-plant-cultivation material, to cultivate a prescribed quantity of cannabis plants, possess a prescribed quantity of cannabis, consume cannabis, the expungement of criminal records of persons convicted of possession or use of cannabis and to delete and amend provisions with certain laws.

The pencilled marijuana bill currently provides for a 15-year jail term for anyone who deals in cannabis, two-years for smoking in public and up to four-years for smoking in the presence of a child.

The draft cannabis bill sets out limits for use at home, the number of plants allowed to be grown and the amount of dried cannabis flower that can be kept on the premises.

    Parliament’s Opportunity

Parliament has the opportunity to produce a sensible, fair and non-discriminatory marijuana bill that removes the cannabis trade from the untaxed, informal sector and allow it to make a significant contribution to the upliftment of rural communities, rejuvenating the South African economy and bulking-up the coffers of the National Treasury.

The justice department has confirmed that the interim relief granted by the Constitutional Court will still be in force until the amendments are enacted by means of a finalized weed bill which has been approved by parliament.

Stoned Citizens say your say! The South African Constitution makes provision for public involvement in lawmaking, oversight and other processes of Parliament. So get your submission drafted, endorsed and mailed to cannabisbill@parliament.gov.za before 30 November!

Medical Cannabis For Kids See Growing Demand Under Pediatricians

Paediatricians in Canada have noticed an increase in medical cannabis treatment requests from open-minded parents who curious about giving marijuana and hemp-derived oils to their kids.

For years, doctors have shunned medical cannabis as a treatment for children, with little research to guide them. However, with countries giving the green light to the magical herb one after another, there’s a new wave of marijuana-using millennials who are looking for alternatives to ADHD medication.

Don’t expect green lights all the time

There are only a very few conditions for which the science is solid when it comes to using cannabis in children.

Pointing to a handful of well-executed randomized controlled trials and a recent systematic review of the literature on medical cannabis for complex pediatric seizure disorders, Dr. Evan Lewis, a pediatric neurologist in Toronto, says there is very good evidence supporting its use in certain seizure conditions, such as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome and tuberous sclerosis.

“Outside of that, it is kind of extrapolating from the evidence and using less robust evidence in the literature,” he says.

Doctor Lewis is now using cannabis for other types of seizures and a range of conditions such as migraines, concussions, sleep problems, autism, tics, movement disorders and behavioural problems in children with neurological conditions. Cannabis is also being used for symptom relief in palliative care, chronic pain disorders, spasticity and incurable malignancies.

    The bottom line

Let’s support the research and the parents whose lives have changed for the better once they had safe, legal access to CBD oil for their kids. If you’re not sold on using CBD oil for your little ones there are many natural relaxation alternatives to help all parties cope with the reality of life.

In dire need of a break? These CBD infused cocktails will totally float your boat!

  • THC in cannabis could help with COVID-19 complications

THC in cannabis could help with COVID-19 complications

Researchers at the University of South Carolina revealed that THC in cannabis could assist in the treatment of serious complications caused by the Coronavirus. Scientists tested the main psychoactive compound found in marijuana, namely or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on mice suffering from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

Coronavirus occurs when fluid builds up in the tiny, elastic air sacs in the lungs, preventing them from filling with enough air. This means less oxygen reaches the bloodstream, depriving organs of the oxygen they need to function.

The condition is one of the most common and serious complications brought on by COVID-19 and can be fatal in humans.

The Scientists ran tests to see if THC in cannabis, which has shown to act as a potent anti-inflammatory, could be effective at protecting mice from ARDS.

A toxin that triggers the disease was given to the mice and one group were then given THC to see if it would block the strong immune response that leads to ARDS.

The three studies found that all the animals who were not treated with THC died after developing the disease. The mice treated with THC all survived.

Although not conclusive, the researchers said the THC in the marijuana plant showed promising results. The compound could potentially be used to treat complications caused by COVID-19.

Another study conducted in Israel used a unique terpene formulation found in cannabis. It found promising results for the treatment of viral infections, including coronavirus.

Scientists found that using the terpene combination with CBD was twice as effective as Dexamethasone, which has been used in patients with severe complications caused by COVID-19.

Make and Bake The Best Red Velvet Dagga Brownies In The World

How much weed should you add?

Gone are the days where you take a bunch of dagga and simply mix it into the batter. Cooking with cannabis has evolved over the years with cannabutter and cannabis-infused oils becoming a staple in every stoners pantry.

There are many factors that come into play when it comes to potency. Be sure to try a small amount before you infuse the entire batch of brownies. Even confidant stoners must be cautious, especially if you are going to share your baked goods with friends.

  • Getting Baked On Cannabis Cookies

    Getting Baked On Cannabis Cookies

Gone are the days where making a pot brownie meant crushing some herb into your cookie batter. That slowboat has sailed even long before Martha and Snoop showed viewers the rope on how to get baked.

Today’s marijuana edibles are much more potent than the weed brownies of yesteryear and available in every form imaginable. Decades ago, a typical bud of marijuana might contain 2 or 3 % THC. Today, the THC in a raw bud of weed sits anywhere between 12 and 25 %, according to experts in the field. The standard dose is considered to be 10 milligrams, but newbies should start with 5 milligrams for the best chance at a good time.

Because the THC is digested instead of inhaled, it can take up to two hours for the edible to kick in. Impatient users might be tempted to eat another one to start feeling the psychoactive effects, but this is a really bad idea. From intense hallucinations to hyperventilation and violent illness, overindulging is dangerous. Cannabis edibles CAN totally mess you up and you don’t want to go there!

If you are chasing an instant and more predictable high, rather smoking a joint or better yet, carve your own bong out of fruit and vegetables.

There’s a reason behind the saying “get ready for the ride”, so a good rule of thumb is to start small, be patient and enjoy the trip!

Keen to get high on your own supply, give this dope dagga brownie recipe a try.

  • World Alzheimer’s Disease Month And How Marijuana Matters

World Alzheimer’s Disease Month And How Marijuana Matters

Dementia is a disastrous disease that affects as many as 50 million people worldwide with an annual growth of 10 million people. Two in every three people with dementia live in low- to middle-income countries. Dementia is a group of brain disorders like Alzheimer’s Disease; that is characterized by impaired intellectual, social and cognitive abilities.

    ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a progressive neurological disease of the brain that leads to the irreversible loss of neurons. AD is the most common cause of dementia among older generations, making up between 50 and 70% of cases.

Research shows the medical use of marijuana for AD may prevent the formation of deposits in the brain associated with the disease. THC and other cannabinoids may be an improved therapeutic for AD by simultaneously treating both the symptoms and their progression.

For sufferers, the memory and thinking skills are slowly destroyed and eventually they require assistance to perform the most basic tasks. There is no known cure or proven treatment to slow the progression of AD, the medication that patients have been prescribed is to alleviate symptoms.

Early indicators may start with forgetting recent events leading to advance symptoms that can include problems with language, disorientation, mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self-care and behavioural issues. Alzheimer’s patients that have developed such severe symptoms eventually tend to withdraw from family and friends. Their bodily functions shut down over time, leading to their eventual death.

Although the exact cause of AD is still poorly understood the following are known to be  contributing factors:

    • Genetics – has only be proven to be a contributing factor to early-onset AD.
    • Environment – which could include a history of traumatic brain injuries or a low-level education which prevents mental development.
    • Age – the biggest risk factor contributing to AD.
    • Gender – it is thought that AD affects more men than woman, as woman live longer on average.
    • Lifestyle – smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, poorly managed type-two-diabetes, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet and low levels of activity.

    TREATING SYMPTOMS WITH CBD

The cannabinoids in medical marijuana have been shown to slow down the formation of plaques forming in the brain and reduce the rate at which cells die. Plaques are the build-up of amyloids between nerve cells in the brain and are responsible for the blockages that lead to Astophy, the shrinkage of the brain due to cells dying off. Cannabis is a natural anti-inflammatory, reduces cognitive degeneration, triggers neuron growth, stimulates appetite, promotes weight control, prevents delusions, stabilizes mood, improves sleep, increases social engagement and boosts motor function!

Comedic legend Seth Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller Rogen are serious about creating and promoting awareness around Alzheimer’s Disease. HFC is an American national non-profit organization whose mission is to take care of families facing this disease as well as educating young people about healthy brain habits. These include at least eight hours of sleep, regular cardiovascular exercise, balanced nutrition, mental fitness and emotional well-being.

September the 21st is World Alzheimer’s Disease Day; spread awareness, be mindful and check in with those friends and relatives that are living with Alzheimer’s Disease or might be looking after and caring for someone with AD!

  • How to fix a canoeing joint and avoid it altogether

How to fix a canoeing joint and avoid it altogether

In the ever-changing world of cannabis legalization, the industry has come a long way. Most of us still have very vivid memories of dodgy back alley deals to get our hands on something that resembled marijuana. Once you have your hands on some primo dry bud there are many smoking options available to choose from. If you are into old school joint-rolling you may have suffered what is known as a ‘canoeing joint’.

Some may ask what a canoeing joint is, while others shudder at the thought of enduring the torment of a running joint. A canoe is a lightweight narrow vessel which is pointed at both ends and open on top. If your joint is burning unevenly, you might see the resemblance to the narrow open-top boat.

Canoeing happens when you light up a joint unevenly or that has not been rolled tight enough, the paper over the air pocket area will catch fire and burns quicker on that side.

    How to fix it

    1. Moisten the faster burning side with saliva, or H2O when you are sharing.
    2. Tilt the joint so the faster burning side is facing down, the heat should rise through to the other side.
    3. Burn the slower burning side with a lighter until it is even with the other.
    4. Cut off the uneven tip of the joint and light it again.

Prevention is better than a cure

    1. Grinding – make sure your cannabis flowers are evenly ground and remove all the seeds and stems.
    2. Rolling – Roll tight and make sure the Mary Jane is shaped properly when you roll, eliminating any space between the ground bud and paper.
    3. Lighting – Make sure the entire tip is a burning cherry before giving your joint a propper puff.
    4. Blow – The wind can cause your perfectly rolled masterpiece to canoe, avoid smoking where the wind blows.

Be the Herb Hero with these basic tips to stop canoeing in its tracks, or avoid it altogether!
