Matt Cohen, the founder and CEO of Lively Spirits says: “Without question, the future of the adult beverage sector is cannabis, and the cocktail is a familiar and accessible format ripe for innovation”.

purejuana is an excellent alternative for making all-natural, good-for-you craft cocktails that skip the booze, the calories and the hangover! Most other cannabis beverages are made with THC distillates, a highly processed concentrate that does not contain naturally occurring terpenes and flavonoids.

    THE COMPANY

    PureJuana

Lively Spirits is a psychotropic spirit company that is disrupting and evolving the adult beverage category with purejuana, a water soluble powder with all the goodness of the cannabis plant and America’s first dry spirit brand. The California based company was co-founded in 2020 by Matt Cohen and Parker Steele.

“With purejuana, we are pioneering a rapidly dissolving dry spirit that delivers a true alcohol replacement, right down to the buzz, without diluting the distinct combination of flavors, aromas and psychoactive effects unique to each cannabis cultivar and the connoisseurs who appreciate them.” says Matt.

    THE PRODUCT

purejuana is a liquid soluble powder that is used instead of alcohol to create crafty cannabis cocktails. The idea behind this pot product was conceived around other plant-derived spirits like mezcal. It is a stable powder that stays fresh without the need to add any additives, the result? The clean, unadulterated taste and aroma of cannabis flowers in your favourite beverage!

    The Product

purejuana products are derived from fresh organic, sun-grown cannabis flowers that are sourced ethically and responsibly. Flash-freezing the cannabis preserves the integrity of the pot plant and the natural flavours, aromas and psychoactive effects of each strain. Then, with the help of some top-secret technology, the psychoactive essence is captured and preserved. Every sachet of purejuana contains more than a 100 cannabis compounds thriving in harmonay to deliver a  full-spectrum experience.

The strains used to produce purejuana are chosen for their unique flavours and interesting effects. purejuana currently has five strains; Venom OG, Blue Dream, Super Lemon Haze, Purple Punch and XJ-13; with future plans to add to this lineup and release limited offerings.

purejuana comes in three colour-coded potency levels, the green label has 2.5mg THC per sachet. The yellow and red labels have 5mg and 10mg THC respectively. Each single shot sachet is the ideal serving for one drink, the duration and effect of purejuana is comparable to that of a single serving of liquor.

    Potency Options

purejuana red label sachets are sold in boxes of ten, retailing at around $23, or a single sachet for ~$3. The green and yellow potency levels are only available in boxes of ten.

    HOT IT FEELS

The measured dose means you can expect a sessionable and socially elevating experience. The rapid onset and elevation is an experience similar to that after a single serving of alcohol and lasts about as long.

You should feel social, spirited and slightly euphoric, however, each person has a unique endocannabinoid system, metabolism and tolerance to THC.

    COCKTAIL RECIPES

purejuana has partnered with some of the best and most celebrated bartenders to develop non-alcoholic cocktail recipes to showcase the distinct flavours and aromas of various cannabis strains

  • Young Frenchman Launches The Country’s First Cannabis Wine In Bordeaux

Young Frenchman Launches The Country’s First Cannabis Wine In Bordeaux

A young Frenchman has launched the country’s first wine infused with cannabis in the heart of the Bordeaux wine-growing region. The mastermind behind the cannabis wine is Raphael De Pablo, the 28-year-old creator of the Burdi W brand. The wine is made from locally Petit Verdot grapes and infused with cannabidiol (CBD), one of the key substances found in cannabis.

While the intoxicating THC cannabis component remains strictly banned in France, the use of CBD is not only legal but has been credited with some medicinal properties, including treating both the symptoms and progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and lowering blood pressure in senior citizens.

“It adds a relaxing effect to the classic effect of alcohol,” De Pablo told the French press, who said he came up with the idea for his brand in 2018.

While his product is legal and certified “from the seed to the finished product” it cannot claim to be wine, and has to be marketed as a “flavoured wine-based drink.”

De Pablo says a little touch of blackcurrant balances out the strong CBD taste, adding that hitting the right mix is one of the more complex parts of making this drink.

De Pablo’s company Burdi W has attracted more than 1,000 backers in a crowdfunding campaign and so far 8,000 bottles of wine have been sold at 34 euros each.

Most of the buyers are in France but orders are arriving from other European countries as well as the United States, where CBD-infused wine is already popular, but also very pricy.

“Our aim is to reconcile young people with wine”, said De Pablo, with the design of the bottles — featuring engraved corks and a marijuana leaf on glow-in-the-dark labels — targeted at a young, sophisticated audience.

Reactions in the wine community meanwhile range from bafflement to rejection.

“Wine is wine. I don’t understand why you would add mood-enhancing substances to wine, there is already alcohol in it,” Diane Cauvin, a winemaker, told AFP.

The influential Terre de Vins wine website, however, deemed the drink promising after their tasting notes described the wine as “vegetable notes that recall the aromatics of a craft beer”.

  • Cold Cannabis Coffee A DIY Recipe To Get You Up and Keep You Going

Cold Cannabis Coffee A DIY Recipe To Get You Up and Keep You Going

Cannabis and coffee are popular across the globe! Some of us rely on the ever-faithful wake-and-bake to get us out of bed, while others prefer caffeine to get going. Although not much study has been done in the field it is thought that caffeine could prolong the effects of cannabis, more specifically of the psychoactive THC. Cold Cannabis Coffee is a delicious motivation to get up, and keep going!

Caffeine and cannabis are both responsible for the happy-hormone Dopamine. A study published during 2017 in the journal Annals of Neuroscience, suggests combining the two could create an increased sense of euphoria for some consumers. One fact we do know for sure, cannabis affects everyone differently. Each person’s endocannabinoid system is about as unique as the impression left by their fingerprints.

    Smoking vs Ingesting

When smoking cannabis it enters the bloodstream fairly quickly, whereas the liver is largely responsible for metabolizing the compounds in the holy ‘erb. Pretty much the same happens when consuming caffeine, which might pose a potential risk to liver health.

Iced coffee is a type of coffee beverage served chilled. It is normally made from hot brew coffee which has been cooled by pouring it over ice or into ice-cold milk. Sweeteners and flavouring are often added into the hot coffee before cooling it, because they dissolve easier in hot liquid. The coffee base is generally brewed at a higher strength, due to the dilution caused when pouring the hot coffee over the ice.

The first documented iced coffee was known as Mazagran, prepared with coffee syrup and cold water. It was referred to as ‘the original iced coffee’ by Algerians in the 1840s. It was first popularized in the 1920s in the United States by the Joint Coffee Trade Publicity Committee (JCTPC) and later marketed by chain outlets like Burger King, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks.

Iced coffee has been popular across the globe for some time now and, as with most things, each culture has put its unique stamp on versions of this refreshing libation. The Portuguese serve theirs with lemon, and rum on celebratory occasions. During the summer months in Chile, they serve Cafe Helado, which is made with strong  coffee, ice cream and dulce de leche topped with whipped cream and nuts

With a rise of infused coffee products, the development of cannabis edibles and the increased effort for global legalization; a marriage between caffeine and cannabis was inevitable. Here is our version of an easy-to-make Cold Cannabis Coffee favoured with Stoner Chocolate Sauce and Cannabis-infused Coconut oil. This chilled beverage is sure to get you up and keep you going!

  • We Honour Mary Jane With Her Own Version Of A Classic: Mary Jane’s Old Fashioned

We Honour Mary Jane With Her Own Version Of A Classic: Mary Jane’s Old Fashioned

“I’m in love with a plain old-fashion girl, she’s the most beautiful person in the world, her smile is so warm and her eyes burn so deep,” The Commodores’ 1980 Old Fashioned Love fills the spaces between the smoke trail left by Mary Jane. We Honour Mary Jane with her very own version of one of the worlds oldest assembled elixir: Mary Jane’s Old Fashioned.

Cannabis Cocktail - Old Fashioned drinks with cheers

The term ‘Mary Jane’ was first printed in Time magazine in the 1930s. It is believed to have been derived from the Mexican-Spanish word ‘marijuana’ which means; the weed that intoxicates. When breaking marijuana into two words, it forms two traditional Spanish names; Maria and Juana. Mary Jane is rumoured to be the English adaption of these names.

    The Classic Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned is a classic cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters and water, adding whisk(e)y or rye, expressing orange zest over the drink before dropping it in the glass alongside a cocktail cherry. The old-timey potion is recognised as an IBA official cocktail, listed as one of the six basic drinks in David A. Embury’s The Fine Art Of Mixing Drinks.

The first written account defining the word cocktail was published in Hudson, New York on 13 May 1806. The editor of The Balance and Columbian Repository wrote that it was a potent concoction of spirits, bitters, water and sugar. It was in response to a reader’s letter the week before, asking for the word to be defined. Basically description the version of the Old Fashioned we have come to love and adore.

On January 1, 1936; The New York Times published an article containing cocktail recipes written by a man who was reflecting on the years following the end of prohibition.

“Consider, for instance, the Old-Fashioned cocktail. Time was when the affable and sympathetic bartender moistened a lump of sugar with Angostura bitter, dropped in a lump of ice, neither too large or too small, stuck in a miniature bar spoon and passed the glass to the client with a bottle of good bourbon from which said client was privileged to pour his own drink.”

    Mary Jane’s Old Fashioned

A toast in honour of the lady of cannabis, here it is; Mary Jane’s Old Fashioned! We opted to use a stoner staple: cannabis sugar. You could make an alcohol extract by leaving ~15g ground-up cannabis flower in a bottle of whisk(e)y for any amount of time ranging from three to thirty days.

  • When Bulletproof Coffee Meets Cannabutter

    When Bulletproof Coffee Meets Cannabutter

Stoned Citizens who swear by the ketogenic diet will be all too familiar with a cup of coffee served with a spoon of butter on the inside. Known as a bulletproof coffee, the drink is wildly popular in the low-carb, high-fat diet community, all thanks to its greasy content.

While some believe bulletproof coffee is a modern concoction, the high-calorie beverage has been consumed throughout history. The Sherpas of the Himalayas and the Gurage of Ethiopia have been drinking rich and creamy butter coffee and butter tea for hundreds of years.

Humans living in high altitude regions have been adding butter to their cup of Joe for an energy boost, as living and working in these areas increase calorie needs. Additionally, many Chinese citizens commonly drink tea made with yak butter. In Tibet, butter tea, or po cha, is a traditional beverage consumed on a daily basis by the Tibetan people.

Many health food personalities and celebrities swear by bulletproof coffee as a morning boost, without any afternoon crash because of the way the fat allows the body to process the caffeine. But what happens when you add cannabutter to your favourite liquid refreshment?

Cannabis isn’t a novel addition to coffee, tea or butter. From coffee pods that gets you stoned to cannabis-infused teas to the everyday stoner staple, the offerings in the cannasphere are endless.
