CBD Hemp Oil – How CannaChi CBD Hemp Tincture Made Me Less Anxious, Less Scatterbrained And More Focused On The Job At Hand

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the many cannabinoids found in the marijuana plant and has been a global hot topic for some time now. CBD is the healing cannabinoid that may assist with a range of ailments; from stress to sleeplessness, easing symptoms associated with cancer or HIV treatments, and the list quite literally goes on! CBD hemp oil is safe, legal in many countries and requires no prescription.

    CBD Hemp Oil Administered Sublingually

Life, as I know it, can be pretty darn stressful at times! Whether you are stressed out about the global Covid pandemic, worried about the wellbeing of loved ones, feeling isolated by lockdown regulations or just dealing with regular bouts of routine anxiety; CBD could be the answer you have been looking for.

    CBD

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid compound found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are the compounds that naturally occur in cannabis plants, they interact with the endocannabinoid system to offer a range of therapeutic benefits, and promote overall health, wellness and homeostasis.

The ECS, or endocannabinoid system, is the biological system in human beings made up of cannabinoid receptors and neurotransmitters. The system is involved in regulating physiological and cognitive processes like; fertility, development, appetite, pain sensation, mood, memory and various immune system functions. Much like your fingerprints every person has a unique ECS, which means not everyone’s brain responds the same to CBD.

Unlike its psychotropic cannabinoid counterpart THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol; CBD will not give you the feeling of being High. CBD is known to have anti-inflammatory, anxiety-reducing, seizure suppressing and analgesic properties. It acts as a symptom management tool that has offered relief to countless people struggling with anxiety, depression, pain, obesity, muscle spasms, PTSD and sleeping disorders like insomnia and restless leg syndrome.

The internet is crawling with anecdotal evidence supporting the positive effects CBD may have on a whole range of ailments. Very little scientific evidence currently exists to support these claims, as the War on Drugs halted studies related to the medicinal properties of marijuana. However, the now massive global CBD market has been a catalyst forcing the hand of government and corporate pharmaceutical companies to invest in science-backed research on cannabis and how it interacts with our bodies.

    FIRST TIMERS

It is nearly impossible to pinpoint exactly when and how the effects of CBD will be experienced, every person’s journey with CBD is unique. Because our bodies respond differently to supplements, it may take a while before you feel any differences or notice any significant improvements. Individuals might only experience the full effect of CBD after regularly consuming a consistent dosage for several weeks.

If you or a friend are interested in exploring the potential benefits of CBD it is important to consult a doctor beforehand, especially for pregnant or nursing mothers and individuals taking medication.

    CBD AND ME

As much as I thought I knew about CBD, I decided to do some research of my own. I was going to be a guinea pig in a human trial of my own. A study to determine the positive effects of introducing CBD to my daily wellness routine. From dealing with a disruptive sleeping pattern to managing sinus-related pain and easing social anxieties; will CBD be the answer for me?

Since CBD became mainstream the market has been flooded with all kinds of infused products from oils and capsules to topicals, suppositories and beauty products. Each promising superior quality products that are the very best at managing symptoms associated with a long list of ailments. I was feeling slightly intimidated, the options seemed limitless when it came to choice. Which brands can I trust? What product will work best for me? After some extensive research, I decided on a CBD Hemp extract from CannaChi.

    CANNA CHI

    Online CBD store Canna Chi

    CANNACHI CBD HEMP OIL

    Canna Chi Hemp Oil Review

CannaChi CBD Hemp oil is by far one of the purest hemp oils out there, made with only natural ingredients. The tincture contains no alcohol, sugars, toxins or contaminants. The CBD tincture is made with the highest quality MCT coconut oil and organic hemp oil that is obtained using super-critical CO2 extraction. CannaChi CBD Hemp Oils are available in three potency levels; 156mg, 312mg or 468mg per 20ml bottle. The flavoured CBD oils each have the additional benefits of flavourants, which include vanilla, orange, peppermint, lavender, cinnamon and lime. Due to personal preference, I opted for the Natural, or unflavoured option to take advantage of the natural earthy taste of hemp.

    IN THE BEGINNING

I started my journey with CannaChi CBD Hemp oil on the first day of June, taking 0.5ml in the mornings with my cup of tea and in the evenings about an hour before bed. Using the dropper, I put the desired dosage under my tongue and hold the plant-tasting oil there for half a minute. The best way to ensure the maximum bio-availability, that is the rate at which your body can absorb the cannabinoid goodness, CBD Hemp tinctures should be administered sublingually.

    Canna Chi CBD Hemp Oil

Right from the first day, I could feel a subtle difference, I felt relaxed and more focused than I had been the days before. I’m not too sure if it may be because of the placebo effect, but I experienced physical and mental relaxation. I fell asleep relatively quickly and seem to have skipped the routine 2 AM tossing and turning; that night I slept better than I had in months!

Motivated by the immediate calm I had experienced, I ritually stuck to 0.5ml in the mornings and another 0.5ml before bed. I noticed I was consistently calmer, clear from brain fog, and not as stressed out as I had been before. Being extremely busy at work has made me less productive before, but now I was experiencing a newfound clarity that allowed me to focus and concentrate on the task at hand. Dealing with work deadlines was not so scary anymore and I was spending a lot less time overanalyzing social interactions. My sleep patterns improved drastically, I was experiencing restful, uninterrupted sleep.

    Canna Chi CBD Hemp Tincture

There are some side effects that are relatively common when using CBD Hemp Oils, I experienced the most common; being dry mouth, or cottonmouth. It is believed that cannabinoids interrupt saliva production when they bind to the cannabinoid receptors in your saliva glands. Apparently, low-quality oils may also cause diarrhoea or exacerbate heartburn when you start incorporating CBD into your wellness regime. Luckily I did not experience either of these using CannaChi’s product, I am prone to getting heartburn relatively easily.

    Canna Chi Hemp Oil

I started taking the CannaChi CBD Hemp tincture just over a month ago, and I am not planning on stopping anytime soon. It simply makes me less anxious, less scatterbrained, and more focused on the task at hand. Overall I could feel that CBD was working for me! I was super stoked about the balance I have achieved and excited for what CBD had installed for me with regular long-term usage. Taking full advantage of an all-natural and organic product that was intended to work in synergy with our bodies. Anxiety and restless sleep can truly be a thing of the past!

    ARE YOU A LUBE NEWB?

There seems to be a bit of a stigma around incorporating lube into your sexcapades. Whether you are flying solo or ruffling the sheets with a partner, or partners – no judgement here, lubricant can, and most probably will, make the encounter more enjoyable for everyone involved. It does not matter how you like it, erotic encounters are supposed to feel good.

DO NOT use oil-based lubricants with latex condoms or poly-isoprene condom, diaphragms or toys. Because Latex is broken down by oil, opt for polyurethane or nitrile condoms.

    WHAT IS CBD

    What Is CBD

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is one of many active components that occur naturally in marijuana plants. The most well-known cannabinoids found in cannabis are THC and CBD. THC is the psychotropic component that causes you to feel High, CBD on the other hand makes you feel calm and relaxed and has a bunch of health and wellness benefits.

Products that state they have been manufactured using broad-spectrum cannabis extract contain less than 0.3% THC, as well as other naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and other phytonutrients like lipids and waxes. All these components work together in synergy, offering the full medicinal benefits of cannabis, known as the entourage effect.

There is lots of anecdotal evidence that suggests that CBD reduces anxiety and depression, relieves pain, is a natural anti-inflammatory, and alleviates cancer-related symptoms. The outright war on drugs created a major setback in terms of cannabis research, the possible health benefits and the plant’s medicinal properties. The Mayo Clinic has confirmed there is currently state-funded research being conducted into CBD as an antipsychotic for individuals that live with schizophrenia, treatment for substance abuse, and diabetes prevention.

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – We Investigate ALL And How Full Spectrum CBD Can Make A Difference

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia – We Investigate ALL And How Full Spectrum CBD Can Make A Difference

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a form of rapidly progressing cancer that is characterised by the development of a large number of immature blood cells. By 2015 it was estimated that globally ~875 000 people were affected by ALL and that approximately ~111 000 patients had lost their battle with the disease. We take a look at this form of leukemia and how CBD rich Full Spectrum hemp extract helped a phenomenal warrior survive her battle with cancer.

    Celebrate Cancer Survivor

Also sometimes referred to as Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, ALL is cancer of the white blood cells that are found in the immune system of jawed vertebrates (humans). It is the most common type of cancer among children between the ages of three and seven years old. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is typically well treated with a combination of chemotherapy, depending on the severity of the prognosis.

    ACUTE LYMPHOCYTIC LEUKEMIA

Mutated White Blood Cells in Patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

ALL is caused by a mutation in the bone marrow cell development. The mutated cells produce immature cells that develop into leukemic white blood cells, called lymphoblasts. The faulty cells do not function properly, they cause blockages and crowd out healthy cells. It is not clear what causes ALL but there are some risk factors associated with the development of ALL. Genetic disorders like Down Syndrome are a risk factor for the development of ALL in children. Environmental risk factors include previous cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation, and being exposed to very high levels of radiation that can be caused by a nuclear reactor accident.

    SYMPTOMS

The signs and symptoms associated with ALL mimic those of flu, but flu symptoms generally improve within a few days. These include bone pain, fever, pale skin, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue and general decreased energy. Be sure to make an appointment with your doctor if these symptoms persist and have signs of other symptoms associated with ALL. Like bleeding from the gums, frequent infections, severe nose bleeds and lumps caused by swollen lymph nodes in and around the neck, armpits, abdomen or groin.

    Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Patient

The tests and procedures used to diagnose ALL include testing blood for irregularities, checking bone marrow samples for leukemia cells and determining the spread of cancer to other parts of the body with imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds.

We would like to share a feel-good story about a heroic little girl and how she conquered cancer with the help of Full Spectrum CBD! Emilene was only three years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL, back in 2017. Due to the severity of the initial prognosis, she was rushed to the provincial hospital’s Paediatric Oncology Unit to start treatment immediately.

    TREATMENT

The standard treatment protocol for ALL is chemotherapy, radiation, targeted radiation therapy and possibly a bone marrow transplant. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia treatment is severely taxing, patients often have a combination of, or experience all of these side effects. Hair loss, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, tooth decay, fatigue, infections, changes in appetite, digestive issues, skin rashes, -dryness, -blistering and -peeling, and general issues with healing wounds.

Even though the survival rate of young children diagnosed with ALL has greatly increased from less than 10% in the 1960s to ~90% in 2015, Emilene was also challenged with being autistic. Her treatments were more difficult and traumatic for her, her family and the hospital staff; compared to ALL patients who are not autistic.

During her initial seven month hospitalization, Emilene was undergoing chemotherapy and having up to eight IVs inserted every day. She suffered from bouts of psychotic fits because the medication she was dependent on to manage her autism symptoms were clashing with the morphine that she was being administered for pain management. A trying time for her and her family indeed!

Emilene, after showing signs of going into remission, was admitted to ICU after undergoing an emergency operation to drain the excess fluid from her brain. The leukemia had spread to her brain causing a blockage that led to her developing hydrocephalus. In the battle to save her life, Emilene had fought through another three brain surgeries while enduring high-risk protocol chemotherapy.

    TURNING POINT

A hellish five weeks had passed and the cancer cells were getting more aggressive, even though Emilene was receiving stronger chemo than before. Her parents received the soul-crushing news; they were advised to take Emilene home to receive palliative care for the remaining days of her life. Modern medicine had failed Emilene!

Hemp Plant Cultivated For High CBD Content

Refusing to accept that there was nothing left to do, her parents decided they were not just going to wait around for their baby girl to die. They instead turned to Elixinol Full Spectrum CBD rich hemp extract and after just a few days Emilene was miraculously making strides and feeling visibly better!

    STUDIES SHOW

Anecdotal evidence exists and is generally accepted that CBD rich Full Spectrum hemp extract treats a variety of ailments and the symptoms associated with them. A paper published in 2016 provides rigorous data that support the clinical use of medical marijuana in a defined subset of acute leukemia patients.

    Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Researchers

There is an increasing number of studies that are suggesting that cannabis can help treat cancer, and the side effects brought on by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Full-spectrum CBD has been known to induce the death of leukemia cells, Mytosis and prevent complications in patients who have received a bone marrow or stem cell transplants. This study investigated the effect that full-spectrum CBD has in terms of leukemia cell size and tracking any subsequent recovery, and concluded that medical marijuana may have contributed to disease control in acute leukemia patients.

    FULL SPECTRUM CBD

    Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Full Spectrum CBD is an extract of industrially aggregated hemp that is specifically cultivated to have very small traces of THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid that causes the feeling of being High. The extract contains all the naturally occurring compounds from the plant including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, lipids and waxes. The entourage effect is achieved when all these components work together in synergy to activate the endocannabinoid system.

    ELIXINOL

Elixinol is a hemp-based Full Spectrum CBD company with an online store that supplies CBD products made with full-spectrum CBD extracts, derived from organic A-grade hemp. They use the best possible supercritical CO2-extraction method and their products undergo rigorous batch testing to ensure quality.

    Elixinol Full Spectrum CBD Liposome

The Full Spectrum Liposomal by Elixinol is one of the purest CBD oils available and contains only natural ingredients like; alkanes, nitrogenous compounds, amino acids, vitamins, flavonoids and terpenes. Their hemp oil tincture is sold in a 30 ml bottle, contains 300 mg full-spectrum CBD and is available in natural and cinnamon flavours.

    OVERCOMING CANCER

Slowly but surely, Emilene’s appetite was returning and she was starting to function normally again. She recovered so well she learned how to walk again, after being unable to for several months, and even started attending school. Emilene has been using Elixinol Full Spectrum Liposomal 300mg for three years and is now cancer-free! Her doctors have agreed that the family should continue lifelong supplementation with Elixinol Full Spectrum CBD.

    Warrior Celebrating Victory

Note: Neither Stoned Citizen nor Elixinol is making any claims to a cure for cancer. Emilene’s case study is simply testimony to the preventative and restorative properties of CBD-rich Full Spectrum hemp extract and how it can activate the endocannabinoid system to help restore the body to full health.

Emilene is a very brave little girl with the spirit of a great warrior, and living proof that anything is possible. Congratulations on battles past and all the best for those ahead of you. At seven years old, you truly are an inspiration to stoned citizens everywhere!

  • What Are The Benefits Of Doing Yoga On Cannabis?

What Are The Benefits Of Doing Yoga On Cannabis?

With more states legalizing the use of cannabis for medical purposes, the pairing of Yoga practice with marijuana has gained traction. It has since become a popular subject among yogis and the yoga community.  With yoga as a practice that requires physical and mental focus, more yoga instructors or practitioners are integrating cannabis to achieve a state of mental and physical wholeness or some kind of enlightenment.  The question is, what are the benefits of high yoga or doing yoga on cannabis? Read on to know more.

    The History of High Yoga

    History Of Yoga

According to Yoga history, yoga practitioners have been doing this practice (while stoned) for centuries in various forms. Yogis in the early times are said to consume ‘bhang’, a beverage that is created from the flowers of a cannabis plant, and hashish, which serves as a meditation ritual in their asanas. Historically, it has already been linked to Yoga, but instead of smoking it, people were drinking it.

The Pros of Doing High Yoga

Most yogis who have experienced doing high yoga shared that cannabis can help develop a better connection with the mind, body, and spirit. In addition, others say that taking cannabis during yoga can simply help you feel more relaxed and feel lesser pain.

    Relaxed Yoga Pose

Here are some of the benefits of doing yoga on cannabis.

    ∙       Supports deeper relaxation
    Relaxed Yoga On Cannabis

Yoga and cannabis help tone down your mind to analyze or plan so you can focus more on sensory experience and emotional engagement. They speak to your parasympathetic nervous system, where your body tells you to rest and digest instead. In short, they heighten your capacity to get out of your head and focus on the present, which leads to reducing your anxiety during the process.

    ∙       Offers vital health benefits
Health Benefits Of Yoga On Cannabis

Various studies show that both offer great medical or health benefits and are tagged as wellness aids, which help reduce stress, chronic pain, inflammation, lower blood pressure, and help get a good night’s sleep. According to researchers, each enhances and compliments the other.

∙       Increases commitment with the poses
    Focused Yoga On Cannabis

Yoga, when practiced with the integration of cannabis, helps you experience a slower flow with more attentive transitions. Thus, you will have a deeper engagement with the flow and will help you appreciate these poses in a whole new light.

    ∙       Strengthens meditation
    Meditate on Cannabis

Most Yoga instructors incorporate an uplifting Sativa-based combination for the active part of the practice and a softer Indica-dominant variant for comfortable savasanas. This will let you enjoy the subtle features of the mind and achieve consciousness. In short, it will help you meditate deeper and longer.

    Conclusion

Yoga and cannabis are likely to fit naturally.  Doing Yoga while on cannabis offers you considerable benefits for your mind, body, and soul.  Yoga is a very personal practice, so deciding whether to incorporate cannabis is ultimately up to you.  Take into consideration what you know about Yoga and yourself before deciding whether to go ‘high’ or not.

  • Bicycle Day – Celebrating LSD In Commemoration Of The First Ever Intentional Acid Trip And The Future of Psychedelics

Bicycle Day – Celebrating LSD In Commemoration Of The First Ever Intentional Acid Trip And The Future of Psychedelics

LSD, Acid, Blotter, Mellow Yellow or even Window Pane is a hallucinogenic drug that is used as a recreational party drug, spiritual awakening and self-actualisation.  Lysergic Acid Diethylamide was synthesized in 1938 by a Swiss chemist named Albert Hofmann, he was doing research into the medicinal properties of ergot alkaloid derivatives. Five years later, on 19 April 1943, the same chemist embarked on the world’s first deliberate hallucinogenic trip. Today, the 19th of April is celebrated as Bicycle Day, in commemoration of Hofmann, the discovery of his ‘Problem Child’ and the faithful bike ride that fueled the hippie movement.

Hunter S Thompson penned the following instructions for the enjoyment of Acid; “try half a cube at first, just sit in the living room and turn on the music – after the kids have gone to bed. But never take it in uncomfortable or socially tense situations. And don’t have anybody around whom you don’t like”.

LSD is a NON-ADDICTIVE mind-altering drug that affects your thoughts, feelings and awareness. Dependencies associated with LSD are brought on by the psychological dependence or need to experience the effects. Users generally start feeling the effects 30 minutes after consumption, which could last up to 20 hours. These effects include visual and auditory hallucinations, dilated pupils and increased body temperature. The recreational use of acid is very unpredictable and should always be taken with caution. Overdose deaths by LSD are not common, the most reported incidents are associated with accidental or reckless behaviour while under the influence.

    WHAT IS LSD

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide was created by Albert Hofmann in 1938 at the Sandoz Laboratories in Basel, Switzerland. The chemist made his discovery while investigating the medicinal value of lysergamide class compounds. A group of Amides of lysergic acids that includes compounds with potent agonist and antagonist activity in various serotonin and dopamine receptors.

Pure LSD is a crystalline clear liquid with no smell and a slightly bitter taste, produced in a laboratory using precursors that naturally occur in nature. It can be ingested orally as a capsule, tablet or soaked onto absorbent paper with colourful prints and cut into dosage units.

LSD, like other psychedelic substances such as Magic Mushrooms, Mescaline and DMT, has shown to be an effective therapy for individuals with treatment-resistant major depressive disorders. Psychedelic therapy has also proven to be a game-changer as a breakthrough treatment for addiction, depression and PTSD.

    LSD Can Treat Depression

    HOW DOES LSD WORK

It is thought that the characteristic hallucinogenic effects of Acid are caused when the drug interacts with the serotonin and dopamine receptors in the brain. The serotonin neurotransmitter is in charge of controlling your behaviour, general mood and moderate your thought of self-doubt. Dopamine on the other hand plays an important role in the motivational or expectancy component of reward-motivated behaviour.

    Find Your Happy Place

The LSD reaches the brain rapidly where it acts on the Central Nervous System (CNS) and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). Acid reacts differently from person to person, the golden rule of psychedelics is to always start low and go slow. The onset of effects can generally be felt 30 minutes to an hour after ingesting the drug, it can peak for two to four hours and could last for up to 12 hours or more. The extent of the effects is related to the dosage and frequency of use by an individual, meaning every person will experience the effects of a similar dosage differently.

HOW DOES LSD MAKE YOU FEEL

Generally, Acid makes you feel happy, creative and confident. You can hear colours and see sounds! The drug brings on bright hallucinations, heightened senses, increased awareness, mind expansion and euphoria. LSD can boost self-esteem, improve general mood and increase life satisfaction; and is also associated with improved social skills and behavioural challenges. A person that is ‘Tripping’ on Acid will have dilated pupils and experience fluctuating body temperatures, loss of appetite, sleeplessness and dry mouth.

    Bicycle Day Tripping On Acid

These effects are extremely subjective, meaning the experienced effects can vary significantly between two people. It is very important to make sure you fully understand the unpredictability of an Acid trip and to be fully prepared for the experience. Users have reported some adverse psychiatric reactions like anxiety, paranoia, delusions, fear and despair.

Acid might not be a viable therapy or choice of recreational drug for persons with underlying mental health conditions like schizophrenia or who are prone to psychosis.

Hofmann described his first experience with LSD: “ [I] sank into a not unpleasant, intoxicated-like condition characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination… I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors.”

    Hearing Colours, Seeing Sounds

    ALBERT HOFFMAN

Swiss Chemist, psychedelic pioneer, the first-ever psychonaut and reason we celebrate Bicycle Day. Albert Hofmann is best known as the first person to synthesize, ingest and experience the psychedelic effects of LSD. On 16 April 1943, Albert accidentally exposed himself to LSD. Albert was convinced, in retrospect, 20 micrograms of the synthesised compound was absorbed through his skin while working in his lab.

Three days later Hofmann intentionally took LSD. He wanted to confirm that it was indeed the synthesized Lysergic Acid Diethylamide that caused the strange physical and mental state he befound himself in just days before. Hofmann administered a dose stronger than he thought to have had the first time, got on his bicycle and started his journey home, from his lab. His experience later became the inspiration behind Bicycle Day.

    Bicycle Day

Hofmann reported his findings and introduced this new hallucinogenic drug to the world.  April 19th would later be known and celebrated by recreational acid users as Bicycle Day in commemoration of the first intentional exposure to LSD.

    LEGALITY

The 1971 United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances prohibited the use of LSD. All the countries that were party to the convention subsequently criminalized the production, distribution and use of the psychedelic. The convention allowed for controlled medical and scientific research of Acid in human subjects.

Just like most psychedelics, Acid remain strictly prohibited in most countries. Progressive countries have listed LSD as a controlled substance or decriminalized its use for medicinal or research purposes. Mexico decriminalized the possession of illegal drugs for immediate consumption and personal use in 2009. Ecuador on the other hand does not consider the recreational use of drugs as a criminal offence, but rather a public health concern. In February 2021 the state of Oregan in the US decriminalized the personal possession of small amounts of drugs including LSD.

    COUNTERCULTURE

The LSD counterculture of the day is well documented in the 1968 non-fiction book The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe. Albert Hubbard, Timothy Leary and Ken Kesey also had significantly contributed towards exposing the world to the new psychedelic. They publicly announced the extraordinary effects and benefits of LSD as a recreational drug.

Bicycle Day Counter Culture Hippie Bus

Ken experienced his first Acid trip while participating in a CIA program that exposed college students to the drug in the 1960s. The funding for the research was secured in order to investigate psychedelics as a companion to therapy for patients with alcohol addiction and severe depressive disorders. The study came to a complete halt when the DEA deemed LSD to have a high potential for abuse and have no legitimate medical use in 1965.

A recent study, published by the Department of Neuropsychology & Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands reported evidence of a protracted analgesic effect of LSD. Subjects reported a decrease in the subjective experience of painfulness and unpleasantness. The data concluded that a 20 microgram dosage of LSD could reduce pain perception by 20% and that more research is required to fully investigate the medicinal benefits of LSD.

    Kaleidoscope Of Colours

Acid is being investigated as an alternative to pain management, to promote happiness and fully express general wellbeing and a healthier lifestyle. As many as 16 million people around the world have Opioid Use Disorder and often overdose due to the health hazards associated with long term opioid abuse. LSD could be the solution to a global pandemic!

In 2018 a study reported that recreational LSD use amongst American adults increased by 56% from 2015. There is still work to be done in the legalization of psychedelics. We need to do more research exploring the medicinal and recreational use of LSD. This mind-altering drug has the potential to be established as a life-changing therapy for individuals diagnosed with depression, addiction and PTSD.

On Bicycle Day we are grateful to the creator of synthesized LSD and his curiosity which led to the psychedelic bike ride that changed the face of psychedelics for good. We look back at the counter culture and all the Acid activists that have promoted its use as a recreational drug and the potential medicinal benefits it has as a therapy.

  • Autism Awareness Month And Why Medical Marijuana Matters!

Autism Awareness Month And Why Medical Marijuana Matters!

On the second day of the fourth month, the globe celebrates World Autism Awareness Day. A day to acknowledging the existence of autism and the roughly four million extraordinary individuals around the world living with the symptoms associated with an impacted nervous system. A day where universal landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the White House are emblazoned in blue lights in support of awareness and fairness for those with this lifelong developmental disability. A day to embrace autistic people and celebrate their unique qualities. We take a look at ASD and how medical marijuana matters!

    WHAT IS AUTISM

Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ASD, is a lifelong developmental disorder that impairs social interactions and communication. ASD also covers the enormous scope of challenges associated with social skills, repetitive behaviour, speech and non-verbal communication. Autism currently affects one in every 54 children in the United States, which has increased by 10% from 2014.

    Autism Awareness

Individuals with ASD have a one-of-a-kind operating system, enabling them to process life and experiences in a unique way. Although researchers are still dumbfounded by ASD, they have concluded that the average autistic brain is larger than that of a person living without ASD. The scientist knows ASD affects the linkages between areas of the brain responsible for emotions, sensory input and executive functions. Another interesting finding is that boys are four times more likely to be diagnosed with ASD than girls.

    AUTISM AWARENESS

    Autism Awareness Month

World Autism Awareness Day is observed annually on 2 April. The global observance was declared in 2007 during the United Nations General Assembly after the motion was tabled by the State of Qatar. WAAD shines a light on Autism Awareness and the growing global health crisis surrounding autism, increase the development of world knowledge and stress the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Moreso to celebrate the unique talents and skills of persons with autism.

    UNITED NATIONS

The UN hosted a virtual event on April 8 2021, with the goal to build a more inclusive and accessible world that recognises the contributions of all people, including those with disabilities like ASD. The global Covid-19 pandemic has created new challenges and obstacles for those initiatives lobbying for inclusivity for autistic persons. Creating a greater need for Autism Awareness! The silver lining is that we have been given the opportunity to completely reimagine the workplace, to create an environment that tolerable and strives for diversity, inclusion and equity.

    MEDICAL MARIJUANA

    Medical Marijuana

Cannabis has been used for its medicinal properties for millennia, with the earliest evidence dating as far back as 10 000 years. The emperor of China; Shen-Nung, who was also a pharmacologist, wrote a book containing the medical benefits of cannabis in 2737 BC. An ancient Egyptian medical papyrus, dating back to circa 1550 BC, is one of the oldest preserved medical documents. The 20-meter long scroll is filled with remedies and elixirs made from the cannabis plant.

By the end of the 19th-century cannabis was regulated as an illicit substance. The 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs scheduled cannabis as a schedule 1 substance, which means it was believed to have no accepted medical use.

The slow, yet ever-developing, re-legalization of cannabis for medicinal use has created opportunities for scientists and pharmacologists to conduct valuable and meaningful research. Which intern has led to the remarkable discoveries of cannabinoids, the human endocannabinoid system and how they work in relation to each other. The health and wellbeing benefits of medical marijuana are now available to more humans than 25-years ago.

    RESEARCH

    Autism Awareness Research

We have made a list of research that has been published on the efficacy of medical marijuana to alleviate the symptoms associated with ASD.

#1 Brief Report: Cannabidiol Rich Cannabis in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Severe Behavioural Problems

In October 2018 a retrospective feasibility study was published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, supporting the feasibility of CBD based cannabis trials in children with ASD. The study assessed the tolerability and efficacy of CBD rich medical cannabis in children with ASD, using the Caregiver Global Impression of Change (CGIC). Of the 60 patients who experienced adverse behaviours like sleep disturbances, irritability and loss of appetite; 61% reported greatly improved symptoms.

#2 Real-life Experience of Medical Cannabis Treatments on Autism: Analysis of Safety and Efficacy

This study was published in January 2019 in the US National Library Medicine. It was aimed at characterizing the epidemiology of ASD patients receiving medical cannabis treatment and describing its safety and efficacy. Data was collected, over two years, from 188 patients medicating with cannabis oil that had a CBD concentration of 30% and 1.5% THC. The study concluded that medical marijuana was well tolerated, safe and effective at relieving symptoms associated with ASD.

#3 Oral CBD Use in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder to Treat Related Symptoms and Co-Morbidities

This study was published in the US National Library of Medicine in January 2019. The aim was to report on the experiences of parents who administer oral cannabinoids to their children with ASD. Under supervision, 53 children with a mean age of 11 received CBD treatment over an average of 66 days. Self-injury and rage attack improved by 68%, sleep-related issues improved by 71% and anxiety improved by 47%. This study did however have some negative feedback, with a small percentage reporting their symptoms had worsened.

#4 Effects of CBD Enriched Cannabis Sativa Extract on Autism Spectrum Disorder Symptoms

This observational study was published in October 2019 in the Frontiers in Neurology. The compassionate use of medical marijuana, with a CBD to THC ratio of 75:1, was observed in 18 patients with ASD. The patients reported ameliorated symptoms like seizures, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, sleep disorders, communication and social interaction skills. The results reported that CBD enriched extracts greatly improved ASD symptoms and substantially increase the quality of life for ASD patients and caretakers.

#5 Autism Spectrum Disorder and Medical Cannabis: Review and Clinical Experience

The results were published in the 35th volume of the Seminars in Pediatric Neurology in October 2020. It concluded that medical marijuana is well-tolerated and effective in easing the symptoms associated with ASD. Amongst the group, 91% of patients reported improved epilepsy and 60% had experienced less aggression and self-injury behaviour.

#6 Cannabinoid Treatment For Autism: A Proof-Of-Concept Randomized Trial

The latest research around cannabis and ASD was published on 3 February 2021 in the US National Library of Medicine. It was found that orally administered plant-derived cannabis extract is well tolerated and reduces disruptive behaviour in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Israeli researchers assessed the safety and efficacy of CBD dominant whole-plant extract and CBD dominant pure cannabinoids. The test was a randomized and placebo-controlled trial of 150 young people with ASD. The patients received one of the two extracts and the placebo at different stages during the trial. Disruptive behaviours, measured on the CGI-I scale, improved 48% in patients on whole plant extract and 38% in patients on pure cannabinoid.

    Medical Marijuana Matters

CBD rich cannabis treatments show great potential in decreasing disruptive behaviour associated with ASD. Researchers also observed weight loss amongst patients who had previously experienced excessive weight gain due to antipsychotic medication.

    Medical Marijuana

Cannabis has shown great potential in treating the life-altering symptoms associated with ASD. Researchers have the opportunity to study the effects of cannabis and how it can be utilized as a medicine for a wide range of ailments, disorders and generally increase the quality of life for those living with these conditions.

  • EPM301 – A Synthetic Cannabinoid Acid More Potent Than THC Or CBD Is Discovered By The Godfather of Cannabis Research

EPM301 – A Synthetic Cannabinoid Acid More Potent Than THC Or CBD Is Discovered By The Godfather of Cannabis Research

Professor Raphael Mechoulam is known as the ‘godfather of cannabis research’, he effectively created the foundation for modern medical marijuana. His latest discovery was announced with the introduction of a new patented compound; a cannabidiolic acid methyl ester, or EPM301. The synthetic, fully stable acid-based cannabinoid molecule has created quite the stir in the world of medical cannabis.

The newest findings resulted from a partnership between Prof Mechoulam and EPM, a global patient-focused pharmaceutical company that is addressing unmet patient needs. EPM is on a mission to develop safe, effective and accessible treatments for a wide range of ailments. There is a global demand to develop treatments for ailments and diseases that have previously been medicated with steroid or opioid-based drugs.

Selection of Pills Replaced by EPM301

    EPM

EPM was founded in 2017 by Reshef Swisa and Asaf Ohana in collaboration with Prof Mechoulam to unlock the true potential of cannabinoid acids. The trio envisioned uncovering the hidden potential of cannabinoids and offer an alternative to current medicine without having to use or consume the plant itself.

    Medical Research Facility

The team has created a platform that has led to the discovery of 14 patented synthetic molecules and their production processes, one of which is EPM301. There are currently three of EPM’s treatments that have been advanced to human trials with the guidance of the FDA, Psoriasis, IBD and ARDS. These treatments are focused on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Psoriasis and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. All of the synthetic cannabinoid acid-based products are protected, potent and industrially reproducible to resolve any pharmaceutical challenges.

    FATHER OF CANNABIS RESEARCH

Prof Raphael Mechoulam has been the driving force behind cannabis research and bringing cannabis to the forefront of the medical community. His life mission has been to push humanity forward with his work with cannabis and cannabinoid acids.

Prof Mechoulam was born on 5 November 1930 in Bulgaria. His father was a celebrated physician who later worked as the Surgeon General at the local hospital. The Mechoulam family immigrated to Isreal in 1949, where Raphael studied chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The professor received a Ph. D from the Weizmann Institute in 1958. His thesis on the chemistry of steroids led him to pursue his research interest in the chemistry and biological effects of natural products. In 1963 the prof received his first batch of cannabis, which he sourced from the local police station. It was during the same year he made a huge breakthrough in cannabis research by elucidating the structure and stereochemistry of CBD. He also then isolated and synthesised THC the following year.

    Researcher Looking into Microscope

Mechoulam discovered the endocannabinoid system by identifying cannabis brain receptors, anandamide and 2-AG, in the 1990s. His discoveries, coupled with a passion for advancing science, have been honoured with more than 25 prestigious awards and three honorary doctorate degrees.

    WHAT IS EPM301

EPM301 is a synthetic cannabinoid acid used to produce prescription medicines that are cost-effective, easily reproduced and treat a range of inflammatory conditions.

Cannabinoids like THC and CBD are secondary substances that only appear after their primary acids are decarboxylated. These mysterious acid compounds are much more potent than cannabinoids but are naturally unstable, therefor it was previously rendered useless in pharmaceutical drug development. EPM has developed a method to work with structurally volatile cannabis compounds by modifying the acids to allow for large scale use.

The prof used a simple chemical process called esterification to stabilize the compounds. This allowed the team to spend time monitoring the compound’s activities, which included reducing inflammation, suppressing anxiety and nausea. The result was a cannabidiolic acid that is a more potent compound than CBD or THC and has no negative side effects. In fact, EPM has proven the use of cannabidiolic acid can essentially substitute steroid and opioid drugs without compromising their efficiency.

    Ok Hand XRay

We owe a great deal of our current understanding of cannabis, cannabinoids and their effects on humans to Professor Raphael Mechoulam. His ambition and passion have led to discoveries that have changed perceptions and contributed to medical advancements. We are optimistic about these and similar discoveries and how new cannabinoids like EPM301 will shape the future of medical marijuana!

  • Can You Overdose On Cannabis?

    Can You Overdose On Cannabis?

Is there something like a fatal dose of marijuana and can you overdose on cannabis? It’s a good and very important question! Hypothetically, what’s the worst thing that could happen? An extreme case of marijuana paranoia?

A stoned reporter for Elemental asked a PHD drug expert the same question and this is what the boffin had to say:

It all depends critically on how much THC you consume. With legalization going global, we’re seeing cannabis extracts with very, very high THC, and we’re seeing more people turn up in emergency departments with adverse reactions. In adults, these adverse reactions include severe anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and other “psychotic” symptoms. A racing heart and, in rarer cases, nausea and vomiting are also well-documented phenomena.

Wayne Hall has published hundreds of peer-reviewed articles on the drug’s effects, good and bad.

Recent data suggest that alcohol-related hospital admissions dwarf the number of cannabis-only hospital admissions by a factor of 25. But many, many more people consume alcohol, which makes such comparisons tricky.

Hall goes on to explains that when people smoke marijuana, the effects tend to be almost immediate and are therefore self-limiting. Some heavy and habitual smokers are able to tolerate so much THC that they can keep smoking to the point that they have a bad reaction. But with ingestible products, there’s often a lag between consumption and felt effect. It’s easier for people to take a lot more than they intend to.

Can an excessive dose of cannabis cause death or permanent damage?

According to Hall, there are some reports of stroke or heart issues following an acute overdose. But these are extremely rare and may not be strictly attributable to cannabis. Cannabis mixed with other drugs — and in particular, synthetic cannabinoid products such as Spice or K2 – is another story with a bunch of complications. Research has linked these concoctions to heart attacks, seizures, and other life-threatening reactions. But when it comes to pure cannabis, including high-THC products, the risks of a deadly or damaging overdose seem to be “quite low,” he says.

    Other experts agreed.

A fatal overdose after cannabis consumption is highly unlikely. As for lingering health issues following an acute overdose, not according to my knowledge. Effects of acute cannabis intoxication are transient.

Kevin Hill, MD, an associate professor of psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School.

The truth is that although marijuana is one of the safest drugs around, far safer than opioids, alcohol, Tylenol, or antidepressants, it is still toxic when the dose is large enough. So be safe and take it easy. Keep in mind: it’s all about the trip, not the destination!
